Pullman Porters Bio
Pullman Porters is a soulful Los Angeles–based duo comprised of twin brothers Todd and Troy Garner, whose sound blends classic soul, blues, rock, modern R&B, and house music into a powerful, emotionally driven experience that bridges live performance and nightlife culture.
At their core, Pullman Porters are soul singers. Rather than being confined to a single genre, they draw from the understanding that soul music is the foundation from which R&B, blues, rock, and even house music have evolved. This perspective allows them to move fluidly across styles while maintaining a sound that is cohesive, authentic, and unmistakably their own.
Raised in Chicago and later Los Angeles, the Garners were immersed in music from an early age. Their father, Emmett Garner Jr., was a prominent R&B promoter who became Vice President of Curtis Mayfield’s Curtom Records, giving them a deep-rooted connection to the legacy of soul music that continues to influence their artistry.
After graduating from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, the brothers stepped onto the global stage as backing vocalists for Lenny Kravitz on his Circus world tour. That experience propelled them into their own creative path, leading to multiple band projects, including a Capitol Records deal and the independent release of their genre-blending rock/soul album with The Seventh Hour.
Since forming Pullman Porters in 2014, the duo has refined a sound that honors legends like Jimi Hendrix, Donny Hathaway, Otis Redding, and Teddy Pendergrass while evolving into something uniquely their own—combining the raw emotion of blues and soul with the energy of rock and grooves that translate seamlessly into DJ and house-driven spaces.
Their releases have earned airplay on iHeartRadio, and their cross-genre versatility has led to collaborations spanning house, EDM, and country. Whether performing with a full band, stripped-down duo set, or in track-supported environments, Pullman Porters delivers a performance that is both musically rich and crowd-moving.
This flexibility makes them a strong fit for a wide range of stages—from traditional live venues to lounges and curated events—while maintaining a consistent identity rooted in soul.
Beyond music, the duo carries a deeper mission. In partnership with the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum, they honor the legacy of the Pullman Porters—an essential force in the rise of the African American middle class—using their platform to raise awareness and give back through their art.
